I wonder if I can do that with my 50 and 200watt CO2 lasers.... the 200 is an x-y cutting laser and might not be able to move the beam fast enough.... the 50 is a galvo, but i don’t know if 50 watts is enough power.... *rummages around for some rusty metal*
edit: Google results seem to indicate 500-1000 watts for the commercial systems...

I know nothing about lasers but if you do try with the 200 watt, report back on your results!

The future is so cool!

I can’t see the vid. (stupid work) Is it safe to assume they are using a laser to remove rust?

I wonder how much heat is involved. Looks amazing for thicker gauge stuff.

CONFIRMED! 50-watt CO2 Galvo-head laser with 150mm lens is a capable rust (and paint, but I already knew that) remover for small parts!

What the hell is that called? I must know more!

ours is also a refurb, same light source (Universal Laser Systems Air-cooled, 50watt, CO2), but a different head and a motorized x-y table. Tested the rust removal with a 150mm lens.

Well I think that is a little out of my price range right now..

You might be able to get a Chinese machine for ~$5,000. But generally lasers of any significant power are not cheap.
edit: Chinese X-Y machines are DIRT cheap! (will be MUCH slower than the Galvo)

What can’t lasers do?
